It is encouraging that the golden handshake  for the Managing Director at British Gas is not resented by the Trade Union (GMB). British Gas customers (I am not one) may be dismayed but they have a choice: despite all the furore it is easier to switch your energy supplier than to change your employer.

My guess is that most BG customers are content to pay higher prices because, presumably, they feel they are getting a better service. It is just possible that better service is due to good employee relations.

The lesson for employers is that it is possible to have a good trade union relationship and such is compatible with profitability.

Consultants in Employer Solutions have worked with Trade Unions since the 1960’s. We have a strong record of mutual respect while always holding the employers perspective.
