Clients, their families and, for care homes, their residents often benefit from The Christie, a cancer treatment centre in Manchester.

But as a boy, cycling past “The Holt Radium Institute” near my home always had a sinister feeling. Nonetheless last year when I took my Mother to its successor, The Christie, it had a real feeling of hope. While that hope was not realised in our case, the fact remains that cancer treatments continue to improve. There is a reduction in their debilitating effects, an increase in their prospects for success and, increasingly, that hope rather than despair.

This July I shall be cycling from Manchester to Blackpool to raise funds for The Christie and its aim of a future without cancer. Colleague, Chris Munnery, will be joining me.

Furthermore, Employer Solutions is adopting The Christie as its Charity of the Year 2011/12.

My Mother sponsored me in February and I hope you will contribute a little too.
