Drawing on 30,000 management and employees interviews across the world the iOpener Institute found high correlations between happiness at work in various sectors and their productivity. Surprisingly, top on happiness and productivity was catering where pay is usually low and enthusiasm questionable. Also unexpected were pharmaceuticals and internet businesses scoring low on both parameters.

UK Productivity

Productivity was measured by people’s ‘time on task’ at work. That is the time that business people are actively producing outputs that make a tangible contribution to their organisation achieving its hard business goals. The international average for time on task comes in at 58.8%. Mexico was top at 73.2%. The UK came in just below at 57.6%.
